Caroline's Comedy Club
Location: South Street Seaport, New York, NY
Area: 6,000 sq. ft.
The world renowned comedy club owner Caroline Hirsch opened this premier new stand up comedy night club, with a cabaret, bar and restaurant. Her dream to upgrade the club's image from its previous location was fulfilled by this nouveau design.
Located on the pier at South Street Seaport in New York City, the breath taking view adds to the mystical entertainment experience.
The 6,000 square foot space has distinct areas for its cabaret club, restaurant and bar. Upon entry, visitors are greeted in a two story atrium. Each area was requested to be designed with a whimsical theme yet with sophisticated elegance. All of the public areas were to be a true theatrical experience.
The restaurant walls are surrounded by larger than life size murals of comedians. All seats have a stimulating view. The bar area, famous for a scene in the movie "Working Girl", sparkles with energy. The bar was designed with unique materials and textures, such as terrazzo panels with translucent colored glass for added glitter when lit from behind. The cabaret area layout has a center stage axis so all audience seats have a prime view of the stage. White floating sheetrock ceilings with contrasting exposed black areas with support pipes, theatrical lighting and ductwork add interest and define the public circulation areas.
White scrim fabric panels were installed around the restaurant windows to filter out the sun while keeping the view. Custom banquettes, tables and chairs are designed with proportion for comfort and scaled to maximize occupancy.
