Continental Can Company

Location: Norwalk, CT

The Chairman of the Continental Can Company, a large manufacturing company, commissioned our firm to build his executive office suite after the completion of their New York City offices.

This office suite is located in the executive wing of its headquarters in a suburban office park in Norwalk, Connecticut. It includes the Chairman's Office and his Assistant's work area.

The Chairman requested that the renovation include custom woodwork, furniture and finishes that would reflect the traditional attitude of his world famous corporation. The design should also reflect his personal strength, stability and maturity.

Custom detailed wood paneled wainscoting, cornice molding, convector enclosures and entry doors in a dark mahogany wood give the office a stately impression. A traditional and masculine undertone is suggested by the scale of the furniture and choice of finishes and textures. Fabric wrapped ceiling tiles help the absorption of sound transmission to neighboring offices and add texture to the ceiling surface.

The office design was personalized by carefully selecting antique and custom furniture, an imported area rug, a globe of the world, artwork and unique desk accessories. Contrasting colors of soft yellow, wedgewood blue, and burgundy were used with solid fabrics on upholstered furniture complimenting the colors in the patterned area rug. The completed office portrays a timeless design with attention to quality and detail as seen in the construction materials, furniture and furnishings.
