Continental Can Company
Location: 100 Park Avenue, New York, NY
Area: 5,000 sq. ft.
A satellite office on the east coast was needed for this large world renowned manufacturing company. The office would be used by the company's attorneys and traveling executives.
The office is located on the 21st floor of a prestigious Park Avenue high-rise office building with wonderful views of the New York City skyline.
The program required a large traditional Conference Room with the ability to present all types of audio and visual media to the members of the board or other visitors. Private offices were required for the Chairman and other staff attorneys. The Reception Area was to be centrally located and used for waiting and informal meetings.
The floor plan centralized the Conference Room, with one side exposed to the extraordinary city view. The offices surround this Conference Room. The Reception Area is located internally, with clerestory glass behind the desk that transfers daylight to the inner waiting area.
A marriage of custom traditional cabinetry detailing, mixed with some contemporary solutions, resulted in a timeless office with beautiful and proportionate details. The cornice molding in the Reception Area appears to break through the clerestory glass and converts to a light cove in the Conference Room. The ceiling steps up to add height and dimension to this room. The custom cabinets in the Conference Room conceal a marker presentation board with built-in marker rails and storage.
Antique furniture among new traditional selections, textured wallcoverings, carpet borders with carpet inlays, all contribute to the stately character of this design.
