Location: 26 West 17th Street, New York, NY
Area: 9,000 sq. ft.

This start up dot-com company was interested in a fresh look and environment conducive to stimulating young talents. Various locations were studied for their feasability.

The selected address was a loft space in the SOHO area of downtown Manhattan. The site was selected because of the open loft, high ceilings, plaster columns, large windows with abundant natural light, and finished oak wood flooring throughout.

It was requested that the design be open, flexible, interactive, fun, spirited and moveable. The open areas should allow for multiple purpose uses, such as brainstorming sessions, informal meetings and coffee breaks.

The open plan design was cleverly planned in clusters of workgroups of equal size workstations. Data and electric outlets are concealed in belt-line troughs between the workstations. Low panels with artistic upholstery define a semi-private work area, yet allows for interaction among the group. A few offices were built for managers, a central Conference Room for large meetings, and a smaller room was designed for informal sessions.

High styled furniture with colorful finishes and fabrics were chosen to stimulate an energetic attitude. Walls are lined with presentation dry erase wallcovering for effective conceptual writing and drawing surfaces. Mobile presentation whiteboards, chairs and tables were all specified with casters so they can be shifted to new locations with ease. Custom colored indirect linear pendant lights were placed at angles to reinforce the angled open area wall layout and to ergonomically reduce screen glare.
