Silvercrest Extended Care Facility

Location: 144-45 87th Avenue, Jamaica, NY
Areas: Main Floor, Resident Floors 2, 3, and 4 including Common Areas and Resident Rooms

This nursing and rehabilitation facility determined it required a new and fresh design for its resident rooms and common areas in order to keep competitive in the healthcare market. The programming, planning and implementation of this project was spanned over five years to accommodate the phasing requirements dictated by the occupancy and allocated budgets.

Located in Jamaica, New York, the facility was originally designed for Silvercrest eight years prior to this renovation. The building was designed with four wings on five floors. Each floor and/or wing has different levels of care.

The program was developed to create identity to each floor for the immediate recognition by residents upon exiting the elevator bank. Each floor was designed to be a different color scheme with signage and floor patterns to direct you to the different areas and resident rooms.

New flooring, wall finishes, lighting, furniture, furnishings, and signage were designed for each floor, corresponding to the assigned floor color. Design solutions were standardized throughout the building for ease of maintenance.

Proposed furniture selections were tested by the staff and residents for proper size, ergonomics and style. Mock up window treatments were installed at specialty locations for committee review. The Owner’s design committee had full participation throughout the design process to achieve solutions specific to the needs of each area and the broad population of residents requiring sub-acute, dementia, ventilator, and geriatric services.
